c1959 Framus Star Bass model 5/149
Well here’s a weird story !
I bought this bass years ago – I had to have it, being a huge Stones fan and a huge Framus fan and as I’d never seen one in this colour before – not even in a book (since then we have actually had a Framus six string through in this finish though ) . .I had to buy it .
When it came into stock it had a very strange feature – somebody had sawn a circle in the back and added a sort of Gretsch style cushion – which was. . ok, but a bit, unusual to say the least.
We immediately took a deposit on the bass – a guy came in, loved it, asked if he could pay for it slowly and we, being nice people, said yes.
He then disappeared - leaving us in a bit of a quandary – that was over five years ago.
It came out of storage after our shop move last year and I looked at it and decided it deserved to lose its strange cushion. I took it too Knight guitars and there Rob matched the paint perfectly and filled in the unoriginal sawn circle, basically bringing it back to its former glory.
We left the worn neck with its crazing and green oxidisation because we felt it looked really cool.
So what we have here is a Wyman style Framus Sta Bass c 1961 in a super rare and stunning finish – to say it’s super cool is an understatement. It sounds superb ( more here ) and weighs just . . . lbs.
And . . . no cushion !
