This is the product of almost four years of planning and work.

After the total madness that followed our last MK1 launch we thought we’d get to work on a set of MKII pedals. Of course every MKII we make is special but we wanted to do something a bit unusual. Four MKIIs that hadn’t existed before built by the four incredible fuzz makers who built the Mk1s.

We started with our individually sand cast case. . I really don’t mean to make a big deal out of it but I sat and watched while some of these were made in the metal works. The process starts with low carbon aluminium being poured into a painstakingly made sand mould and then finished to the highest standards in one of the most well established casters in the UK.

Then came four new hammer finishes. Champagne beige for Dave Main. Nugget Gold for Ian Sherwin. Serpent skin Green for Steve Williams and Tight Hammer Ice Blue for Stu Castledine. The different finishes were achieved by a specialist hand spraying them at different rates and distances.

The insides were all finished in matt black with slight overspray.

The hold up in production came at the end of 2024 when we sent the base plates back twice because they were too shiny! Yes, we are slightly crazy!

Then it was time for transistor selection and prototypes. Each of the guys frankly knocking the whole process out of the park.

The challenge was to produce a family of four pedals, all intrinsically related but different enough to stand alone and be individually brilliant. This was done through transistor selection plus the taste and talent of the builders.

Steve produced the closest thing ever to the best vintage MKII you could ever hear – fat, aggressive, loud whilst maintaining a classy musical vibe.

Stu gave us a nasty throaty MKII with incredible clean up and amazing snarl – so much nastier than it looks with a lovely mid boost.

Ian’s was really surprising – a load of MK1 attitude shining through the obvious MKII tone, even some Velcro notes when rolled back – just beautiful

Dave’s is , dare I say , pure Led Zep – choppy and voiced to do that amazing clean up but feeling like a wild Overdrive at full throttle – sounds  . . .rude !

So, 70 years after the first Tone Benders were produced we’ve hopefully made 200 very special units. We haven’t compiled a waiting list – we’re just going to put them online as they arrive and hopefully the people who want one will get one. Already on day one people have been asking us for timings / alerts / top of the queue please etc etc – basically if we did that they’d all be sold already so we’re just going to release them slowly and hopefully it will work out.

Regarding the regular MKII waiting list – yes – we’re still working through it and we will continue to do so – it’s like defeating a monster, it can only be done slowly and quietly!

So this is one of 25 Steve Williams Short Board MKIIS , in its green serpent case , equipped with black glass OC75s circa 1962 ,plus other vintage goodies mounted on original vintage chocolate brown veroboard .
